Special Services

While we gather weekly for worship, we also like to explore other worship opportunities throughout the liturgical year:

During Advent, we offer a Blue Christmas Service to recognize that not all things about the Christmas season are celebratory. The evening gathering acknowledges that there are moments of sorrow, grief, pain, and anxiety for many of us at some point in the midst of readying for the holidays, so a quieter service of candlelight, music, readings, and presence is offered as a holding place for feeling our way through.

Christmas Eve's Candlelight Service is a tradition long celebrated at 11:00pm on Christmas Eve. Given the late night hour, there is something almost magical as we gather in the sanctuary for readings from scripture that retell the story of the birth of Jesus, traditional music, the lighting of the Advent candles and the Christ candle, and a candle-light singing of Silent Night, Holy Night.

The Lenten Season begins with an Ash Wednesday service that includes scripture, poetry, music, communion, and the imposition of ashes.

During Holy Week, special services include either a Tenebrae or Maundy Thursday service with a dinner that includes the church's traditional main dish, the Maundy Thursday Casserole, and communion. There is also a Good Friday service offered.

Sometimes a church member offers a mountain home or cabin for an outdoor worship service early in the summer.  New opportunities are always being considered and our Facebook Page most often lists current events and changes to the "regular" schedule as does the Events Calendar on our website.
